The Challenge
I worked with the American Heart Association over the course of many years on their signature event, the HeartWalk. I designed the main website in addition to the interface for their online registration and participant portals for donation.
The HeartWalk is a Nationwide event, so AHA needed a hub for their thousands of participants and supporters to visit and find their local walk. They wanted to maintain brand integrity with each of their local walk websites. They needed a streamlined flow for walkers to be able to sign up and then reach out to supporters for donations.
- Increase online giving user engagement via active participants.
- Increase page personalization.
- Decrease abandon rate.
The Solution
Utilizing the design discovery process and with detailed wireframes, I developed a design for their main HeartWalk site and the personal pages. This included creating an interface for the National event site enabling visitors to easily find their local walk. In addition I made several improvements to the corporate teams and personal fundraising pages to make them more engaging including finding designing badges, reimagining the way the page was laid out and streamlining the registration experience overall.
The Results
After implementing the new design, AHA, had a record-breaking revenue year. Core special events such as HeartWalks were a significant contributing factor to the success. HeartWalks, the association’s top revenue generator raised $117 million, an increase of 6% from the previous year.
